Talk:Ph.D. Prep Track and Doctoral Student Q&A

I believe we need to combine some of this stuff into similar types of articles. I think longer articles that answer several questions would be useful. Here is one idea for mapping the current content into something new.

• Create one article on applying to Ph.D. programs. None of the articles below seem like they should stand on their own. Include the following information on that single page (under different headings):
  • What Ph.D. program should I attend?
  • What should I expect when I visit a campus?
  • How do I get into a research intensive PhD program?
  • The Application Process

• An article on Life as a Professor. This would merge these articles together:
  • What is life like as an accounting professor?
  • How much do accounting professors make?
  • What is accounting research?

• An article on what is life like as a Ph.D. student. Here's the initial attempt: Life as a Doctoral Student. This would merge these articles together:
  • What is life like as a doctoral student?
  • How do you succeed in a Ph.D. program?
  • How do I prepare for comprehensive exams?

• An article about preparation before going into a Ph.D. program:
  • What will I learn in the Prep Track that I won't learn elsewhere? (Should I do the prep track...type part of article)
  • Should I get a Ph.D. in a subject area other than accounting?
  • Why I didn't get a Ph.D.
  • Should I work in industry before getting a Ph.D.?
  • Should I find a teaching opportunity before my Ph.D. program?
  • Where can I find teaching opportunities?
  • Mathematics Review for Doctoral Students
  • Free Lectures in Mathematics
  • Should I take the CPA exam before entering a doctoral program?
  • How should I prepare for the GMAT?

• An article Specifically for Prep Students:
  • What classes should I take?
  • Am I cutting off options by deciding to do the Prep Track?

This reduces the article count to 5 different articles and goes into more depth on each one rather than sort of a hodge-podge on all things. Thoughts? Daw44 21:01, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
