Talk:BYU Alumni and Friends
What do you think of the name? Is there a better name to use than "Our People"? Maybe, "Friends of BYU"? The problem with both of them is that they create exclusions (i.e. there are some people who are NOT "our people" or not "friends of BYU") Kurt Gee 04:59, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Good question. There is no easy solution. What about "BYU Alumni and Friends" I think that is pretty close to accurate. Daw44 05:03, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- I moved the page (as you can see). I like that name a lot better. Kurt Gee 04:27, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
What do you think about adding a "research methodology" section (or primary/secondary?). Any other information that would be nice to have in the table? Daw44 05:03, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think that would be useful. Also, do we want to put "Ph.D. granting institution" on the table? or should we just make people go to the user's page? Kurt Gee 04:27, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think this would be very useful too. I like adding this one. Daw44 06:46, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I noticed you put two research methodologies; do you think we should do two columns, or just change the name of the column to "Research Methodology" instead of "Primary Research Methodology"? Kurt Gee 18:05, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think this would be very useful too. I like adding this one. Daw44 06:46, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I've been trying to make a list of the changes that need to be made to individual faculty pages. Is that something else you want me to update while we're going on here, or should the user make those changes? I don't think I'd be stepping on anyone's toes to update a link so it actually works. Several colleges and universities have changed their directories, and our links don't redirect. Kurt Gee 04:27, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Please update. People doesn't keep their stuff current, so please feel free to update. Daw44 06:44, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Also, do we want to include non-accounting faculty (David Wagner--Org B. & Gordon Smith--Law)? What about faculty who don't have a PhD, like Richard Dalebout? Or non-current faculty like Steve Albrecht? Should there be a special designation ("Retired Faculty") for them? Kurt Gee 04:36, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- We can delete Richard (he retired). Please check the "what links here" page on the right before deleting and try to remove them from the wiki wherever appropriate (you may try searching for their names). As for Albrecht, he's a mission president and will return to the academy when he is finished, so leave him. As for non-accounting faculty, let's put them on a separate page and decide later what to do with them. Daw44 06:44, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Please move Mike Bednar to the "other" page for now. He's not an accounting professor. You can also create a page for the University of New Mexico. Gracias. Daw44 15:50, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Kurt Gee 18:00, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Do you know anything about Ed Johnson?? I'm not totally sure that he is a faculty member, nor that he received a PhD. Kurt Gee 18:23, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Also, I think Bret Bradley does OrgB instead of Accounting. Unless you know otherwise, I moved him to the Others Page. Kurt Gee 18:36, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Can you delete a few pages: "University of Nebraska", "University of Nebraska-Lincoln", "Bentley College", "Rutgers University-Camden", "UNLV", & "Dalebout, Richard". I've moved the contents to pages with different names, and updated all of the pertinent links. (I don't think I can delete a page, but if I can, please tell me how.)
- There may be some un-updated links on the Current Faculty page. When I try to edit it, it shuts down (like this page used to when we had all of the pictures.) That's why I didn't think I had rights to edit it before. I figure any issues with that page or other "current ___" pages will disappear when we take those pages down and put this one up. Another thought: rather than needing to update faculty members' pages AND this page when a faculty member changes universities, what if we delete the "PhD-granting institution" and "Current School Affiliation" from the faculty pages, and just have that information on the table on this page? Do you think that's less useful? It eliminates an update anomaly. Kurt Gee 05:06, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
